Volunteers make a difference.

Volunteering with Hospice of Acadiana provides opportunities for you to engage in worthwhile, meaningful work! Whether you are interested in sitting bedside keeping a patient company, creating flower arrangements to be delivered to patients, or helping with a fundraising event, there is a place for you to volunteer at Hospice of Acadiana. If you are interested in volunteering, please consider the following:

  • Common traits of a volunteer: a spirit of compassion, understanding and patience; respect for other customs and religious beliefs; the ability to learn and be comfortable in silence.
  • A mandatory training/orientation is provided. Regardless of which volunteer role you’re interested in, we’ll be sure that you receive adequate training to ensure your success as a volunteer.
  • All volunteers providing support for our patients are required to have annual TB testing (if applicable) to meet compliance requirements.
  • A criminal background check is required for Hospice of Acadiana volunteers.

Waiting Period After A Death

For those who have lost someone close to them, a one-year waiting period after the death is best for volunteers interested in direct patient care. We have other opportunities for you to engage in during the one-year period, so please do not hesitate to apply to volunteer. We are sorry for your loss and offer free bereavement services through our Center for Loss and Transition to support you during this difficult time.

If you’ve read the requirements above and are ready to get started, here’s how:

  1. Complete a Volunteer Application by clicking here. The application takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.  (If you would prefer to complete a paper form, please contact Logan Pearce at 337-706-3732 or lpearce@hospiceacadiana.com)
  2. Register for a Volunteer Orientation by logging into your Better Impact account or by contacting Logan.
  3. After completing the orientation and passing both the background check and TB test (if applicable) you are ready to be placed as a volunteer!
